In the year a large secession from this congregation and society took place, and eventually formed the congregation now assembling in the Methodist Free Church, Baillie-street.

The Rochdale circuit, for greater convenience of managing its pastorate, was divided, ininto the Union-street and Wesley circuits. Sir James Duckworth was a committed Christian, a lifelong member of the United Methodist Free Churches (UMFC).
